This summer, Lindsay saw crows taking turns ‘bathing’ in chimney smoke - getting ride of parasites perhaps? Tell us your bird stories, sightings, and feeding tips.

My favorite bird observations, usually involve crows. I just love those birds!

This spring, I was doing e-mail chores and kept listening to one of “my” crows making a huge racket out front. Knowing that something was probably up; I went to see what was going on.

Well I laughed hard enough that the crow stopped to look at me for a minute. He/she had a raccoon pinned down in the spruce tree outside the front door. Well I pulled up a chair and sat down to watch. Every time that raccoon tried to move he would get dived at.

The crow kept that coon in that tree for half an hour. When the raccoon finally hit the ground, the crow chased him from tree to tree until he was about 200 yards away, on the other side of the trail.

Felt bad for the coon, but had a good laugh over it anyway!

  2. I was walking down the creek into my canoe and I saw a seagull pass over with something in its gullet. I was curious to know what was inside so I rowed down the river and caught up with the seagull on the horizon.

Turns out it was carrying food for its young.
