Yeah when flying i always bring an empty bottle through security and fill it up on the other side before boarding the plane. It never hurts to have some extra water on the plane anyhow!

I'm planning an eco trip to Algonquin next year. It will involve canoeing and bicycling for a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to appreciating nature!

Tip for those who fly:

Anyone going through airport security in North America in the last few years is familiar with the sight of garbage bins full of water bottles that travellers have had to throw out, as they're not allowed past security. These bottles are NOT recycled by the airport. What few people know is that empty bottles can go through the security check. So rather than leave your bottle in the garbage, empty the water out so that you can reuse it at the other end of your journey.

Hi,
My kids and I took a hike up a local Glacier. We stayed close to home, it's a one hour drive to the parking lot, and then we hiked for three days. It was an absolutely fantastic and uplifting trip! The kids - 10 & 12 - ate it up and wanted more. They were sad to leave on the Monday as the people and the weather all co-operated to treat us with a fabulous time in the heart of Mother Nature - Kokanee Glacier Cabin in the Kootenays - rocks!!!
We packed in all our own food and we made sure we never left something behind - even the compost. No scrap of packaging either and I would explain why to my kids as we hiked and hiked and snapped pic after pic after pic. :)
